Grew up in Zaltbommel, now living in Wageningen.
I work a lot with photos, from which I choose a part or detail, and process that into my own image. My work is often inspired by organic forms. This often results in a work that looks familiar, yet is not recognised. I like to leave a lot to the viewer’s imagination and perception.
In his book “Why birds sing”, David Rothenberg explains how starlings mimic (human) sounds, and incorporate into those their own song.
I do like this bird: “One bird often whistled the first notes, not the words, of “Way down upon the Swa-” without ever feeling inclined to add “no River,” even after hearing the whole phrase practiced hundreds of times on the piano. I think this shows a clear starling aesthetic: The bird just liked that shortened phrase better. … He grabs what he wants and slots it right into that strange starling music. ” (David Rothenberg)
